We are looking for a phlebotomist to join our team within a busy GP practice environment. This patient-facing role is integral to supporting the diagn...

  • Deliver a professional phlebotomy service by obtaining patient consent, performing venepuncture safely and adhering to clinical protocols while providing an excellent patient experience.
  • Accurately record patient information, label and manage specimens, resolve discrepancies and ensure samples are processed and transported to laboratories within required timescales.
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians and practice colleagues to support service delivery, contribute to audits and continuous improvement initiatives, and promote high standards of patient care.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant qualification in venepuncture and a good standard of education, including English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
  • Experience working within a General Practice setting and providing care or services directly to members of the public.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, with the ability to maintain accurate clinical records and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Core Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
  • Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
  • Maintaining accurate patient records on SystmOne clinical system
  • The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
  • Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
  • Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
  • Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:

  • Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
