Working under
the direct supervision of the Nursing Team and strictly in accordance with
specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Phlebotomist / Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will
assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed
programmes of patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Patient health checks
- ECG recording
- Phlebotomy
- Chaperoning duties
- Dressings (excluding 4 layer
bandaging)
- Removal of sutures
- Surgical equipment and vaccine
re-stocking and stock rotation
- Preparing and maintaining
environments and equipment before, during and after patient care
interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor
operations
- Assisting in the assessment and
surveillance of patients health and well-being, including hypertension
monitoring
- Undertaking specific clinical
activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught
specifically in relation to that individual
- Helping to raise awareness of
health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- Assisting with the collection and
collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
Working under

Phlebotomist Duties and Responsibilities
- Obtaining patient consent for the collection of
a blood sample
- Performing venepuncture in accordance with
practice protocols
- Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system and ensuring specimens are ready for onward transportation.
- The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
- Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
- Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related maters
- Being an integral part of the general practice team
HCA Duties and Responsibilities

Pontesbury & Worthen Medical Practice is a developing and growing practice with two sites, situated in the rural villages of Pontesbury and Worthen, just south of Shrewsbury providing medical care for approximately 10500 patients. We are a forward thinking team, keen to adopt and progress innovative ideas and solutions whilst providing excellent clinical care. We are a Dispensing practice. We are a training practice.

Essential
- Experience of working in General Practice

Qualifications
Essential
- Good general education
- NVQ 2/3 or equivalent experience
- Qualified in performing venepuncture
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Ability to work within a team as well as autonomously
- Evidence of ability to be able undertake administrative duties
- Good IT skills
- Willingness to develop and undergo further training as required
- Hold a valid driving licence
- Pleasant & presentable
- A caring nature
- A good communicator
- Sense of humour
Desirable
- Experience in the use of practice computer/clinical systems
