Medication & Prescription Management

  • Process and check prescription requests accurately and promptly.
  • Handle medication-related queries from patients, clinicians, and pharmacies.
  • Manage prescription workflow and ensure timely delivery of medications.

Medication Safety & Monitoring - Support safe and timely monitoring of medications, including blood tests and drug levels.

  • Identify patients due for medication reviews and book appointments with appropriate clinicians.
  • Assist in managing stock levels of emergency drugs and clinical supplies.

Administrative & Clinical Support - Process clinical letters and prescription-related documentation.

  • Assist with audits, medicines optimisation, and health promotion initiatives.
  • Contribute to reducing medication wastage and improving cost-effective prescribing.

Collaboration & Communication - Work closely with pharmacists, GPs, and the MDT to ensure seamless medication management.

  • Maintain accurate records and follow practice procedures.

To support the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of medications across Penrose Health services. Working closely with pharmacists and the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT), you will manage prescription workflows, monitor medication safety, and contribute to cost-effective prescribing. This role is essential in ensuring patients receive the right medication at the right time, while maintaining compliance with clinical and organisational standards.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of medication workflows and prescription processes
  • Awareness of safe medication monitoring (bloods, drug levels)
  • Familiarity with medicines optimisation principles

Desirable

  • Knowledge of primary care systems and processes
  • Understanding of cost-effective prescribing strategies

Skills

Essential

  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage high-volume prescription requests
  • Organisational and time-management skills

Desirable

  • Experience using EMIS and Microsoft-based programmes
  • Audit and data analysis skills

Qualifications

Essential

  • Pharmacy Dispenser qualification OR minimum 2-year experience in community pharmacy
  • Minimum GCSE-level education (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in GP or Community pharmacy
  • GPhC registration (for Pharmacy Technicians)
