This role has been created to service the increased Winter demand that GP practices face. We want to improve the patient journey for our patients and endeavour to reduce admissions to A&E.
The successful candidate would form an integral part of the ARI clinics. We hope to appoint before the peak winter season, to provide more same day appointments. We would then timetable ARI clinics. Duties would include: -
- Providing same day appointments, to patients triaged as to needing same day review. We would anticipate acute illnesses and would be actively triaging so that presentations requiring ongoing GP follow-up were not booked in to these slots
- As the winter progresses and ARI clinics are commissioned we would anticipate this being the primary clinic type provided by the successful candidate
- The candidate would be expected to be comfortable in dealing with same day acute GP presentations
- We would expect appropriate clinical documentation and coding
- The successful candidate would be expected to order their own investigations and manage onward referrals
Gateshead Inner West PCN are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic GP to join our team on a fixed term period. This role is to service the seasonable demand of the winter months to provide same day access and Acute Respiratory Clinics.
This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to work as part of a multi disciplinary team serving a diverse community of approximately 45,000 across the Inner West of Gateshead.
This is a patient-facing role, with the vast majority of consultations expected to be face to face but there may some be some telephone consultations. Clinic will be based across any of our five practice sites as needed.

Based in the Inner West of Gateshead our Primary Care Network serves over 45,000 patients across our four member Practices of: The Whickham Practice, Chainbridge Medical Partnership, Glenpark and Teams Medical Practice and Sunniside Surgery. We are motivated to provide high-quality care to the population we serve. All our practices use EMIS.
We have an established ARRS team including Social Prescriber Link Workers, community nurse, Community Mental Health Practitioner's, Physiotherapists and Pharmacist's
