- Provide a comprehensive medical secretarial service to an allocated Consultant and their clinical team, ensuring the delivery of an efficient, responsive and professional administrative service.
- Act as the day-to-day lead for the Medical Secretary Team and Paediatric Reception Service at Queen's Hospital Burton, promoting high standards of performance and service delivery.
- Provide operational support and first-line supervision to administrative staff, ensuring workloads are managed effectively and service priorities are achieved.
- Act as a key point of contact for Consultants, administrative colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, facilitating effective communication and problem resolution.
- Support the Operational Coordinator and Paediatric Management Team with workforce management, recruitment, staff development and service improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of administrative processes to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of services across the paediatric pathway.
- Support the delivery of organisational objectives through effective leadership, staff engagement and continuous improvement activities.

Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements:
Essential
- A good standard of English to GCSE or equivalent RSA/OCR level III or equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Previous experience working in an administrative / support secretary role and understanding of medical terminology.
- Advanced level of IT literacy with experience of using a range of IT applications.
Desirable
- NVQ III in Business Administration or equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Secretary experience within a healthcare setting.
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Provides performance reports for management team.
Desirable
- An understanding of the 18-week RTT process and a knowledge of the Trust Patient Access Policy and an agreement to adhered to these policies according to National Trust Guidelines, as appropriate to role.
- Previous Team Leader experience
Skills and Communication
Essential
- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own workload effectively
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict Trust deadlines.
- Ensure accuracy of patient correspondence and filing systems as per Trust Policies.
- Concentration required when typing communications for accuracy and responding to all enquiries.
- Excellent Written and verbal communication skills
Desirable
- Experience of communicating medical information within an NHS setting, written and verbally to patients, and staff clinical or non-clinical staff.
