The post holder will be responsible for the planning, co-ordination and operational management of the OPD activity and patient flow. Consequently, the application of safe staffing models and allocation of effective skill mix are key. Working collaboratively with Multidisciplinary Teams across the Organisation is a central activity, therefore, the enhanced communication skills are fundamental.

Other responsibilities of the role include

  • Ensuring the delivery of evidenced based, patient centred and high quality care
  • Incident, risk and complaint management
  • Recruitment and development of staff
  • Ensure department compliance with statutory and mandatory training requirements
  • Proactive management of performance, conduct and attendance concerns in line with Trust policies
  • Monitor department key performance indicators
  • Service development and improvement
  • Creation of SOPs, policies and processes
  • Care, maintenance and complication management of central vascular access devices
  • Compliance with infection, prevention and control policies
  • Data interpretation and presentation
  • Informal and formal teaching / training

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • First level degree in related subject.
  • Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant subject
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Advanced Communications Skills Training or prepared to work towards

Desirable

  • Management Qualification
  • Recognised teaching /mentorship qualification

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Knowledge of Cancer, treatment modalities and services
  • Role of Charities and partnership working in the NHS.
  • NHS structures and functions

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post registration experience, at Band 6 or above, in cancer, or the speciality.
  • Experience of teaching
  • In-depth specialist experience
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Experience of multi- professional working

Desirable

  • Project management experience
