To provide administrative and clerical support to the Orthoptic department at Royal Derby Hospital.
General administrative duties
To answer telephone and email enquiries for non-clinical and clinical matters.To deal with all other departmental correspondence, including mail, emails, messages and enquiries from patients and colleagues.To communicate clinical information in electronic, written and verbal form to health and other professionals adhering to confidentiality and Data Protection.To accurately enter patient data onto secure departmental spreadsheets for recording purposes.To attend regular meetings with the Orthoptic team including departmental meetings, 1-1 supervision and appraisals.
Additional dutiesAny other duties required by the Orthoptists or Administrative Team Leader.

Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements
Essential
- Educated to O'level/A-C GCSE or eqivalent
- Demonstrable experience using Microsoft Office packages, including excel and teams
Desirable
- Previous administrative experience in a Hospital setting
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
- Demonstrable experience of working in a reception role previously
- Demonstrable experience using Microsoft Office packages, including excel and teams
- Demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding issues and the procedures involved in information exchange with other service providers and other professionals
Desirable
- Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the Orthoptists and how their roles support the wider Ophthalmology service
- Knowledge of the RTT (referral to treatment) waiting list procedures in accordance with the local and national targets and the trust patient access policy, as appropriate to role
- Knowledge to operate the Patient Administration Systems across UHDB
- Previous administrative experience in the hospital setting

- To be able to demonstrate the ability to plan own workload and that of others
