An opportunity has arisen to work within the South East Wales Region of Newborn Hearing Screening Wales, an All-Wales programme, which provides a unif...
Duties include communicating with the parents throughout the process, baby handling, use of screening equipment and accurately recording clinical and test data relevant to the screening process, therefore, good communication skills and experience of using a computer are essential. You must be a confident and reliable individual and possess the ability to work well under pressure.
Although the base site will be at the Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran, you will also be required to work several shifts at the University Hospital of Wales in addition to other South Wales hospital sites on a regular basis and to run clinics in the community. Therefore the successful candidate will need the ability to regularly travel between and work at other sites within the region as needed.
There is a mandatory requirement to undertake Level 3 Accredited Learning. On completion of this and subject to all criteria being met, you will continue in your job role on a permanent contract with PHW at the designated pay scale.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
- Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent experience (including GCSE grade A-C in English Language); or equivalent qualification.
Desirable
- ECDL or other computer skill qualification
- Evidence of recent CPD
Experience
Essential
- Experience of and confident in using a computer for data entry.
- Experience of working within a customer/client facing role.
- Confident in following protocols (e.g. screening delivery, fault finding on equipment).
Desirable
- Experience of working with children and families
- Experience of working in the NHS
- Experience of administration/clerical systems
- Experience of supporting training of other colleagues
- Experience of post natal ward/SCBU working patterns at other local hospital sites
Skills and Attributes
Essential
- Interpersonal and communication skills for communication with parents at sensitive times
- Ability to undertake routine equipment checks
- Ability to work within a team but ability to also screen independently in hospital and in the community
- Ability to understand screening result and management plans
- Excellent organisational skills and hand eye co-ordination and manual dexterity
- Accurate data entry and ability to keep accurate records
- Ability to act as a mentor to others
- Ability to travel between local NBHSW sites
- Flexible to meet service needs, committed to quality, reliable and able to learn from experience

- An understanding of a clinical ward environment
- An awareness of deafness. Knowledge of hearing problems
