To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure the provision of high quality nursing care to children and families. To act as ...
To be a clinical expert within the speciality.
To provide expert nursing care to very premature and ill newborn babies with complex multi-organ problems that is at high risk of acute deterioration.
To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence based nursing care for the children and their families.
To provide continuous monitoring observation and assessment for signs of deterioration or complications of treatment and make appropriate and timely intervention, with the skill and dexterity to minimise physical and physiological stress to the infant.
To care for babies with multiple invasive devices. Using skills to minimise risk of complications, recognise those occurring and taking appropriate and timely action.
Ensure that each baby is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated in negotiation with the family, and that this is accurately documented.
Promote Family Integrated Care and ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring and safe environment for the babies and their families.
To act as an advocate for the baby and family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.
To provide a sympathetic and empathetic listener for parents to explore their experiences. To teach, encourage and support parents and family so they can develop skills and confidence to care for their baby.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential
- Registered Nurse (Part 1) - Active NMC Registration
- Bachelor degree in relevant health related subject (or equivalent experience)
- Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults/Children including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
- Knowledge of quality and service improvement methodologies e.g. Bronze IQT Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of NMC Code
- Relevant clinical experience Experience of working in a multi-professional environment
- Experience of shift leadership
- Experience of working with preregistration nursing / midwifery students
- Experience of formal /informal teaching and of mentoring preregistration nursing or midwifery students.
Desirable
- Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Recognised management qualification
- Understanding of wider nursing and health care related agenda
- Relevant experience within specialty and able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant specialty
- Experience of coordinating a team
- Experience of facilitating learning in and from practice
- Previous experience of leadership and management

- Satisfactory Enhanced DBS clearance including an Adults and Childrens Barred List check
Desirable: - Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
