Band 8a | Ongoing Opportunity | Full Time Are you an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and driving service improvement? We're looking for an exceptional Modern Matron to provide strategic and operational leadership across an inpatient Older Adults Mental Health service. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior nurse who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care, supporting staff development, and shaping high-quality mental health services. The Role As Modern Matron, you'll provide visible clinical leadership across multiple inpatient wards, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care. Working closely with senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams, you'll be responsible for maintaining excellent clinical standards, supporting service development and creating a positive environment for both patients and staff. This is a highly influential leadership role where you'll balance operational management with strategic service improvement while championing patient experience and clinical excellence. Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and operational management across inpatient mental health wards.Lead, motivate and support Ward Managers and multidisciplinary teams.Drive continuous quality improvement and evidence-based practice.Ensure services meet key performance indicators, governance standards and regulatory requirements.Lead on workforce planning, recruitment, retention and staff development.Manage budgets and resources effectively.Oversee clinical governance, patient safety, risk management and incident investigations.Support the implementation of service redesign and transformation projects.Promote high standards of infection prevention, cleanliness and patient experience.Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and professional standards.Act as an escalation point for complex clinical and operational issues.Participate in the Trust's senior management on-call rota. About You To be successful, you'll bring:
Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) qualification with current NMC registration.Significant senior leadership experience within Mental Health services.Experience managing complex inpatient services and multidisciplinary teams.Demonstrable experience leading service improvement and change management initiatives.Strong knowledge of clinical governance, risk management and patient safety.Excellent understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding legislation.Experience managing budgets, performance and workforce planning.Outstanding leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to influence, inspire and develop others.Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Desirable Experience
Formal management qualification.Teaching and assessing qualification.Experience within Older Adults Mental Health services.Experience working with complex mental health presentations, including dementia, forensic mental health or severe and enduring mental illness.
