MHST Senior Clinician

• Support Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and Senior Wellbeing Practitioners (SWPs) to deliver evidence-based intervention for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health difficulties
• To deliver evidence-based support for children and young people in education settings, utilising skills and knowledge of CBT and child and adolescent mental health practice, and knowledge of Whole School and College Approach to mental health
• Working with and within education environments to provide better access to specialist mental health services
• Supervise and line manage AEMHPs, EMHPs, CWPs and SWPs
• Practice in accordance with clinical governance processes and professional standards.

• Complete psychosocial formulations to inform care planning.
• To provide consultation as required to other professionals (such as teachers and family workers) around mental health difficulties in children and young people.
• To provide consultation as required to young people around their mental health difficulties.
• To provide consultation as required to parents around the mental health difficulties of their child.
• To offer interventions such as CBT, solution focussed work, guided self-help and group support to children and young people.
• To enhance emotional wellbeing and to promote or build resilience in children and young people through educational workshops, assemblies and PSHE lessons.
• To deliver psychoeducation and support to parents/carers and education staff.
• To supervise and manage other members of the team, including Senior Wellbeing Practitioners and EMHPs, through the delivery CBT-informed supervision.
• To oversee the formulation of treatment and management plans for schools, parents/carers, children and young people being supported by the EMHPs and the Senior Wellbeing Practitioners, using a range of specialist psychological interventions appropriate to the service in individual and group contexts.
• To work with the team and stakeholders to determine how delivery of care will need to be altered in the different settings dependent on need (for example, to consider the provision required for special schools).
• To produce accurate records, reports and observations as required
• To refer on, or signpost, to appropriate specialist agencies when required.
• To liaise closely with other professionals including colleagues in the Emotional Health and Wellbeing Service, GPs, Paediatricians, Specialist CAMHS, school counsellors, Childrens Services, and other voluntary agencies.
• To measure outcomes for all interventions.
• To contribute to team multi-disciplinary working.
• To support the roll out of further MHSTs within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
• Demonstrate appropriate understanding of the legal and ethical issues in providing mental health care to children and young people.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and the Care Act. The post holder will also have an understanding of the Safeguarding Children and Child Protection procedures.
• The post-holder will be required to work with young people whose behaviour may be personally challenging and deal with frequent exposure to highly distressing or highly emotional circumstances.

• The post-holder will be able to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills, self-awareness and empathy in all communications.
• Represent the team at meetings as delegated by the Clinical and Team Lead and contribute effectively to the meeting agenda.
• Key communication:

• Assist the Clinical and Team Lead with recruitment and selection, as required.
• To participate in regular managerial and clinical supervision.
• To attend and participate in training, supervision and the appraisal process, to ensure professional development and competence.
• Ensure that all policies applicable to Children and Adolescents Mental Health Services are implemented as far as it is within their ability, contributing to developing new processes and procedures within the MHSTs.
• Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and Knowledge and Skills Framework process.

• To collaborate with other team members in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.

• Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any client/family/staff records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
• Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transferred electronically must be undertaken in accordance with the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
• The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.
• The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
• It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with the relevant professional body and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration.
• Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust.
• Provide clients and their families/carers with information on standards they should expect from the team.
• Participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis.
• The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness processes for their team.
• The post holder must participate in clinical and safeguarding audits as required.

Essential

• Relevant therapeutic professional qualification or equivalent e.g. Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, accredited CBT Therapist, qualification in systemic family therapy, qualification in child and adolescent psychotherapy
• Appropriate and valid UK professional registration e.g in psychology, systemic family therapy, psychotherapy, teaching, social work, nursing, occupational health or an undergraduate degree in a relevant field

Desirable

• Post Graduate clinical supervision training/qualification (e.g. CYP IAPT) or a willingness to attend identified training
• Further therapeutic qualifications

Essential

• Experience of work with children and/or adolescents with mild to moderate mental health problems.
• Experience of working in a multi- disciplinary team.
• Experience of clinically supervising team members with their own clinical work, delivering evidence-based interventions to children and young people in groups and/or one to one.
• Experience of working with and managing risk.

Desirable

• Experience of delivering psychoeducation workshops to professionals, young people and/or parents/carers.
• Experience of working with positive behaviour approaches and young people with ADHD, ASC and/or other learning difficulties
• Experience of supporting young people in an educational setting and/or experience of working with schools, promoting a whole school and college approach to mental health

Essential

• Knowledge of legislation related to children and/or adolescent's mental health and social care e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, Child Protection and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Children.
• Ability to work autonomously in a community setting, making appropriate decisions
• Ability to prioritise workload and to meet deadlines
• Good knowledge of different outcome measures used in Children and Young Peoples settings (e.g. SDQs/RCADS.)
• Ability to communicate information on formulation, risk and intervention to staff from other disciplines.
