  • To assist with the day to day operational co-ordination of Consultant and junior medical staffing issues within the service.
  • To manage, on a daily basis, the Consultant and junior doctors on call rota.
  • On notification of sickness absence, identify where there is a shortage of medical staff cover and identify cost effective solutions.
  • To proactively identify where there will be planned shortages of cover either for on-call or ward work, and find cost effective solutions for the periods, in liaison with Consultant medical staff, and the medical staffing department.
  • Devise the duty rosters for Consultant and junior medical staff, ensuring all services are adequately covered, and ensuring all relevant people are informed of any changes to the rota, e.g. Switchboard, Consultant Secretaries, Ward Clerks, Nursing Staff, Administration Staff.
  • Working in partnership with HR, maintain New Deal/European Working Time Directive shift patterns in response to new legislation and service developments.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Diploma level education or equivalent experience
  • IT Literacy
  • Ability go work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Competent in use of IT packages

Desirable

  • Ability to speak Welsh
  • Knowledge of New Deal for Junior Doctors
  • Previous experience of working with clinical or senior staff
  • Experience of developing staff rotas

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to take succinct notes at formal meetings
  • Good organisation, time management and interpersonal skills
