Working in a busy and sometimes demanding role, within a supportive team, they must be a good team player and enjoy working within a multidisciplinary team. The applicant should have good organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well under pressure. As the post deals with patients, relatives and healthcare professionals on the phone, and occasionally face to face, applicants must have excellent communication skills and will be expected to have a courteous and efficient telephone manner. They need to have a good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

This includes having a qualification (pass or distinction) in audio transcription or word processing at RSA stage II or an equivalent governing body. The postholder will be responsible for providing an efficient administrative and secretarial service to support clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care. The role involves managing clinical correspondence, maintaining patient records, communicating with patients, families and healthcare professionals, and supporting the smooth running of services, whilst ensuring confidentiality, accuracy and excellent customer service.

Education and qualifications
Essential
- Business and Administration Level 3 NVQ or equivalent experience
- Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths

- Effective and polite manner when dealing with people, both face to face and on the phone
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
- Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
- Ability to work on your own, using your own initiative, if required
- Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers
- Ability to adapt to use new computer packages and programmes
- Effective organisational skills
- Good IT skills including Microsoft packages

Experience

- Experience of dealing with the public, both on the telephone and in person
