  • Attendance at Medical Retina outpatient clinics
  • Assessment and management of patients with retinal disease, including AMD, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular disease, and inflammatory retinal disorders
  • Participation in intravitreal injection services in accordance with departmental protocols
  • Interpretation of retinal imaging, including OCT and fundus photography
  • Participation in the Ophthalmology on-call rota (1 in 14)
  • Maintenance of accurate and timely clinical documentation

Professional and organisational duties will include

  • Participation in audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement activities
  • Contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as appropriate
  • Engagement in appraisal, revalidation, and mandatory training
  • Compliance with Trust policies and professional standards

The post holder will undertake a24-month Medical Retina Fellowshipwithin the Ophthalmology Department at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The fellowship is designed to provide advanced subspecialty training in the assessment, investigation, and management of medical retinal disease in a district general hospital setting.

The post holder will work under the supervision of Consultant Ophthalmologists with a subspecialty interest in Medical Retina and will participate in the general ophthalmology on-call rota.

  • Attendance at Medical Retina outpatient clinics
  • Assessment and management of patients with retinal disease, including AMD, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular disease, and inflammatory retinal disorders
  • Participation in intravitreal injection services in accordance with departmental protocols
  • Interpretation of retinal imaging, including OCT and fundus photography
  • Participation in the Ophthalmology on-call rota (1 in 14)
  • Maintenance of accurate and timely clinical documentation

The Ophthalmology Department provides comprehensive secondary care services to a population of approximately 750,000 across Lincolnshire. Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, is a major base for outpatient ophthalmology services, with additional clinical activity delivered across Trust sites.

The post holder will be supported by Consultant Ophthalmologists, Specialty Doctors and Specialist nurses.

The department supports continuing professional development and encourages participation in audit and research activities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCS, FRCOpth or equivalent
  • Current GMC certificate

Desirable

  • UK Experience
  • Relevant higher degree or equivalent

Skills

Essential

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate understanding of educational needs of trainees and commitment to effective teaching at all levels
  • Computer literacy
  • Understanding of the principles and implementation of Clinical Governance

Desirable

  • Ability to innovate and develp new technology and methods

Training/ Experience/ Research

Essential

  • Proven clinical experience in ophthalmology with a broad experience of the specialty - minimum of six year
  • Experience of and undertaken Clinical Audit, with recently presented findings

Desirable

  • Evidence of recently published research or case reports
