Locum Consultant in Acute and General Medicine

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative dutiesassociated with patient care. To oversee the Acute Medical take, performing mid and post-take wardrounds, facilitating specialty referrals and triage. To provide an immediate medical opinion forseriously ill patients at the request of junior medical staff.2. Leadership, development and organisation of the services in their charge in line with the Trusts'business plans. Liaison and communication with the Lead Clinician and Clinical Director for AcuteMedicine and the General Manager for Medicine3. Development of their own interests and sub-specialties within the specialty, including activeparticipation in Research, Audit and Quality Improvement Programmes.4. Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.5. To provide evidence-based care.6. To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out within the site and Trustguidelines.7. To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues within the department, other clinicalspecialties within the Trust, General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.8. To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work, working closely and regularly with theconsultant medical staff.9. To provide cover for annual and study leave colleagues so far as is practicable.

Qualifications

Desirable: - Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.); - A higher degree (MD,PhD)

Clinical Experience

Desirable: - Experience in Same Day Emergency Care.

Teaching Experience

Essential: - Bed side teaching

Desirable: - Formal teaching experiences on courses e.g. PACES

Skills

Desirable: - Ability to motivate busy clinicians to engage in teaching; - Ability to develop research projects and supervise trainees in their research
