The post holder will work within the Diabetes/Endocrinology footprint in outpatients, wards and allocated offices, in the community and across the West Midlands.

The post holder will co-ordinate and lead the overall management and the strategic development of the nursing teams and share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Endocrine, Diabetes, including the Rare Diabetes service, Metabolic Bone/Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) and Complications of Excess Weight (CEW) nursing services.In conjunction with other members of the diabetes and endocrine multidisciplinary team, will enable the development of district-wide services for children with endocrine/diabetes disorders, familiesand professionals, identifying needs and facilitating the implementation of services within agreed local and national standards.Promote excellence in nursing practice through delivery in an advanced level of nursing care to the child and family.They will work closely with external stakeholders from health, education, social care, and the public

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current NMC registration Child Branch
  • Degree in nursing
  • MSC willingness
  • Certificate in management/approved management training/equivalent management experience
  • Clinical leadership Course e.g. ILM
  • Recognised paediatric qualification in one or more specialist endocrine disciplines

Desirable: - Post basic qualification in child protection; - Teaching and Assessing Qualification; - Non-Medical Prescribing

Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive knowledge and current clinical experience in one or more specialist endocrine disciplines
  • Evidence of leadership experience
  • Evidence of on-going and current professional development
  • Knowledge of and ability to work within the Trust and wider NHS policies
  • Knowledge of the Trusts safeguarding policies and procedures and the ability to raise concerns appropriately
  • Evidence of managing staff and dealing with difficult situations
  • Evidence of leadership roles
  • Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment
  • Experience in budgetary management and control, or the willingness to acquire
  • Experience of implementing a change in practice

Desirable: - Experience of managing complaints and investigations

Essential

  • xcellent communication skills - ability to engage and lead challenging discussions with staff, patients and external part
  • Proven ability to prioritise demanding workload and that of others and well organised and able to work in a challenging and busy environment
  • Proactive, self-motivated with an ability to motivate others

Desirable: - Ability to plan strategically and clinically influence and advise clinicians and senior manager within the Trust and external bodies/organisations

Other

Essential

  • Post registration course relevant to the Management of Childhood Diabetes (Birmingham City University) and/or the Principles of Care for the Child and Young Person in Endocrinology (London South Bank University) or willing to work towards

Essential: - Flexible and adaptable to changing situations; - Ability to work without direct supervision; - Flexible and adaptable to changing situations

Essential

  • Good computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point) and IT systems
  • Demonstrates previous experience of performing appraisals in line with the Trusts appraisal process

Desirable: - Demonstrates previous experience with performance, capability and absence management in line with Trust policies
