The post is not a formally approved training post (i.e. it does not hold NTN status). However, it is possible that some of the clinical components of the post may be recognised as counting towards training ingastroenterology/hepatology (to be negotiated with the Training Programme Director).
The clinical duties will constitute provision of inpatient care on our 28 bedded wards at the Northern General site (Robert Hadfield 3 and 4). The Gastroenterology and Hepatology consultants will supervise this clinical service. There is a requirement for work at the Royal Hallamshire site in supporting the day case unit (Clinical Investigations Unit, P floor) on a rotational basis with the training level Foundation Year 2 and IMT doctors.
Some flexibility will be required in the event of sickness but it is unlikely this role will involve travelling between sites.
There is a routine Acute General Medicine FY2/IMT on-call commitment.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at point of application
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- ALS certificate
Desirable
- Evidence of engagement with MRCP or completion
Clinical Experience
Essential
- 2 years of clinical experience post-qualification and evidence of achievements of foundation competences from a UKFPO attained foundation programme or equivalent, in line with GMC Standards/Good Medical practice
- Evidence of experience of working practices in the NHS with a minimum of 4 months practising in a clinical setting (excluding clinical attachment)
- Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
- Ability to prioritise clinical need
- Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk
- Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient
Desirable
- Experience working in a UK Major Trauma Centre or Teaching Hospital Trust in a Foundation post or equivalent
Teaching and training
Essential
- Experience of teaching medical students and resident doctors
- Awareness of ethical issues
- Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety and clinical quality improvement initiatives
Desirable
- To have the ability and willingness to teach at all levels and to all groups of staff
- Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, and involvement in a formal research project
- Evidence of relevant academic publications/presentations
Continuous Professional Development
Essential
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

- Evidence of a portfolio of audit/quality improvement projects, including where the audit loop has been closed and there is evidence of learning of the principles of change management
- Evidence of understanding the practical workings of clinical governance e.g. handling a complaint, incident reporting
