  • Provide a Critical Care service at Royal Preston
  • Participate in the trainee critical care rota with additional cover during colleagues' absence.
  • Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods
  • Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
  • Exercise the freedom to develop specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources.
  • Provide care to critically ill patients across and participate in the on call rota for RPH site.
  • Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.
  • Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the theatre environment.
  • Maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine

The Critical Care Unit has an established research infrastructure with three research nurses contributing to both national portfolio and local studies.

Opportunities exist for development within a pre-hospital care setting as well as in Trauma Resuscitation leadership skills, dependent on experience and skills.

Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Previous employment in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in the UK
  • Hold ALS certification or equivalent*
  • ALS/ATLS/APLS Instructor
  • Management experience/ certification
  • Research experience, leading to peer reviewed publication

  • Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC Standards/ Good Medical Practice

Experience and Skill

Essential

  • Have at least 2 years of Foundation Year employment or have equivalent experience and competencies.

Personal

Essential

  • Proven effective communication skills with examples.
  • Good organisation skills with examples
  • Works well within a multidisciplinary environment.
