Interventional Radiology Nurse

• Deliver safe and compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care throughout the peri-procedural pathway.
• Act as a scrub practitioner, circulating practitioner or pre-procedure nurse across a variety of interventions.
• Monitor and support patients during invasive and sedated procedures, ensuring accurate documentation and record keeping.
• Prepare patients for procedures, providing clear explanations and emotional support.
• Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care.
• Maintain patient dignity, privacy and advocacy at all times.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, clinical audit, infection prevention and risk management initiatives.
• Support the education, supervision and development of students, learners and junior staff members.
• Contribute to the efficient day-to-day running of the department and take charge of clinical areas when required.
• To participate in and provide support for two separate Interventional Radiology on-call services, following completion of the required training and competency assessments.
• Maintain and develop specialist knowledge and skills in line with emerging interventional radiology techniques and service developments.

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop, implement and evaluate individualised care plans.
• Prepare, support and monitor patients before, during and after procedures.
• Undertake the roles of scrub practitioner, circulating practitioner and pre-procedure nurse as required.
• Monitor patients receiving sedation and provide ongoing clinical observations throughout procedures.
• Act as the patient's advocate, ensuring informed consent, privacy and dignity are maintained.
• Accurately document clinical information and maintain records in accordance with Trust and NMC standards.
• Participate in health promotion and patient education activities.

• Support the smooth and efficient running of the Interventional Radiology service.
• Ensure equipment, consumables and medicines are appropriately maintained, stored and available.
• Contribute to service development, audit, quality improvement and infection prevention initiatives.
• Support the delivery of a responsive emergency and trauma service through participation in the on-call rota.

• Act as a role model, promoting professional standards and best practice.
• Contribute to staff development, mentorship and competency assessment.
• Deputise for the Team Leader/Sister when required and assist in coordinating clinical activity and resources.
• Support the management of incidents, complaints, risks and safety concerns in line with Trust policies.

• Communicate complex clinical information clearly and sensitively.
• Promote collaborative working across Radiology, theatres, wards, critical care, emergency services and specialist clinical teams.
• Participate in departmental meetings, education sessions and service improvement initiatives.

Essential

• Demonstrable experience in managing acutely ill patients and gain appropriate first line and second line support
• Demonstrable experience of perioperative care
• Full understanding of the NMC code of professional conduct
• Computer literacy

Desirable

• Competent in clinical skills such as scrub techniques, ANTT, male and female catheterisation, cannulation.
• Intermediate Life Support skills
• Relevant demonstrable experience in related area eg interventional radiology, vascular theatres, endoscopy, imaging
• Completed a preceptorship programme
• Proven ability to administer oral and IV medication

• Registered Nurse (or Operating Department Practitioner with ability to administer IV drugs or willingness to undertake training and be assessed as competent within 8 week timeframe) or willing to complete preceptorship program
• Diploma / degree qualification in a healthcare related subject or equivalent demonstrable experience

• Able to do all aspects of the clinical nursing role, to include manual handling of patients
• Able to wear radiation protective clothing including lead aprons for extended periods
• Able to undertake on call evenings, nights and weekend duties
