The post holder will be the site-lead pharmacist for Surgery & Critical Care at Whipps Cross University Hospital, with specialist cross site responsibility for Surgery & Critical care pharmacy services. The post holder will be the Trust lead pharmacist for Ophthalmology pharmacy services To promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective prescribing of medicines within the surgical speciality in order to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and improve medicines safety.

Experience
Essential
- Significant experience post registration in a hospital based clinical post
- Proven experience of good performance in previous posts
- Experience of providing a hospital-based, clinical pharmacy service to Critical Care (level 2 & 3) patients
- Previous evaluations or reviews of medicines
- Experience of providing evaluated information on drug expenditure
- Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. pre-registration / foundation training pharmacists
- Experience of successfully leading and implementing service improvement and change projects.

- Successful experience of managing & leading projects
- Experience of successfully managing staff, performing appraisals and giving feedback

Essential
- Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
- Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
- Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
- Understanding of stock control systems
- Excellent knowledge of the medical management and pharmaceutical care needs of Critical Care (level 2&3) and Surgical patients
- An awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues relevant to Critical Care and Surgery patients

- Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
- Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation

Qualifications
Essential
- MPharm or equivalent
- Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- Independent prescribing qualification, or willing to work towards

- Reliable with a good attendance record Flexibility with regard to working hours for late and early meetings
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
