Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist

• To provide comprehensive, culturally appropriate, evidence-based assessments to establish client's needs; level of support and type of interventions required to facilitate their engagement and recovery.
• To manage a small caseload of service users with complex, severe and enduring mental health needs; using evidence based and recovery principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment and support for clients in our Boroughs.
• To act as a named worker for service users within the context of the Care Programme Approach within core hours of Monday to Friday 9-5, but with some flexibility as required by the needs of the service users within the caseload.
• Undertake assessment and activities within a multi-disciplinary framework, in order to identify the needs of service users, help them to access relevant support and treatment and to arrange and provide appropriate packages of care within the available budget.
• To present cases to the relevant placement panels for in-borough and out-of-borough placements, both for initial funding requests and reviews.
• To work proactively with service providers to draw up resettlement plans and carry out regular reviews for clients to assess their progress towards identified goals.
• To contribute to service development
• To undertake supervisory and appraisal responsibilities for allocated team members
• To act as mentor to students on practice placement and to mentor junior members of staff.

Essential

• Post-graduate doctoral level training or its equivalent) in Clinical Psychology leading to eligibility for Chartered Status by the British Psychological Society
• Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Desirable

• Post-doctoral training in Neuropsychology

Essential

• Experience of working in a neuropsychology setting.
• Experience of conducting comprehensive neuropsychological assessments autonomously.
• Experience of neuropsychological assessment report writing to a high standard
• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Desirable

• Experience of adapting psychological interventions for clients with cognitive difficulties.
• Experience of conducting cross cultural neuropsychological assessments via an interpreter.
• Experience of the application of clinical neuropsychology in different cultural contexts.

Essential

• Skills in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological and psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
• Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
• Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.

Desirable

• High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialized psychological therapies.
• Knowledge of evidence based psychological therapies for people with Parkinson's disease

Essential

• Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.

Desirable

• Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
