The ideal recruit would have patient safety and team-working at the forefront of their minds. We believe that working together ensures the best outcomes for our patients, and pride ourselves in maintaining a friendly, fun workforce. We expect healthcare support workers to work closely with the nursing staff, by providing patients with day-to-day care, and always promoting their independence. You would also spend time completing observations and escalating patient's conditions appropriately and documenting any findings.

Although previous NHS experience is an advantage, it is not essential as training will be provided! All we need from you is a compassionate and outgoing personality and a willingness to learn.

This advert is for a Band 3 role. If you hold a recognised Care Certificate, you may start at Band 3. If not, you will join as a Band 2 and be supported to complete your Care Certificate and progress to Band 3.

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital

UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.

This service will remain at Royal Bournemouth Hospital and relocate into the brand new COAST Building.This move is planned for early 2027.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good Standard of numeracy & literacy
  • Completion of a competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational level 3

Desirable

  • Short courses to undertake patient and clinical care duties

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to adapt and learn in a healthcare environment

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within a care environment/NHS
  • Experience working as part of an MDT
  • Experience working with the public
  • Basic food handling

Skills

Essential

  • Understanding of basic physiology e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements
  • Communication skills
  • Teamwork, as well as own initiative
  • IT literate

Desirable

  • Venepuncture & Cannulation

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of basic patient care
  • Understanding of importance to promote good health and well-being

Desirable

  • Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical obs, relevant legislation
