The main responsibilities for our HCA team is to support the practice team in providing:
- Wound care - some complex so experience is a must with leg ulcers and complex wounds
- Phlebotomy
- Long Term Condition management - mainly diabetes checks so evidence of training in foot checks is a must
- Health promotion and NHS Healthchecks
- Vaccinations - ideally has attended the 2 day immunisation training and is competent
- recording of medical observations

The role of HCA involves
- Phlebotomy
- ECG recording
- Performing routine and opportunistic BP checks, height, weight, BMI & urinalysis
- Undertake NHS Healthchecks
- Basic wound management including dressings and removal of stitches and clips.
- Provide adult vaccinations including influenza, covid, shingles and pneumococcal.
- support practice nurses in providing services for patients with long term conditions including diabetes and foot checks, CVD, mental Health and Learning Disability Health Checks.
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes with the opportunity to be involved in group consultations.
- Stock ordering.
The role will include home visits.
A more experienced HCA will also be involved with:
- Doppler assessment.
- Chronic wound management including leg ulcers
- INR Star monitoring
- Spirometry

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE in Maths and English
- Basic training in Healthcare including phlebotomy and basic dressings, vaccinations and long term condition's management.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Healthcare.
Experience
Essential
- Experience in a primary care setting.
- Experience of NHS Health checks.
- Trained in phlebotomy.
- Ability to read and record essential readings such as BP, weight and height.
- Experience and ability to dress basic wounds and remove stitches and clips.
- Experience of Chronic wound management.
- Access to a car for home visits.
Desirable
- Experience in general practice
- Trained in INR Star.
