The Healthcare Assistant will work as part of the Practice's
clinical team, supporting GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and other
healthcare professionals in the delivery of high-quality, safe and
patient-centred care.
The postholder will undertake a range of clinical and
administrative duties within their level of competence and training, helping to
ensure patients receive appropriate and timely care and supporting the Practice
to meet its clinical, preventative healthcare and quality requirements.
Undertake clinical activities appropriate to the individual's training and competency, to include:
- Measuring and recording blood pressure.
- Recording pulse, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation.
- Measuring height, weight and calculating BMI.
- Performing urinalysis.
- Carrying out routine blood tests/phlebotomy where appropriately trained and assessed as competent.
- Performing ECGs.
- Undertaking new patient health checks.
- Undertaking NHS Health Checks.
- Supporting chronic disease monitoring and reviews within agreed protocols including diabetic foot checks.
- INRs
- Undertaking smoking status and lifestyle assessments.
- Recording relevant clinical information accurately in the patient's medical record.
- Consulting room stock, ensuring clinical supplies are available in each of the consulting rooms.
- Supporting clinicians during examinations and procedures where required.
We are a forward thinking, dynamic and friendly practice. We have three
GP partners and a young multidisciplinary team including salaried GPs, long
term locums, Nurse Practitioners, Lead Nurse, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacists, Care Coordinator, GP Assistants, Mental Health Practitioners and Social
Prescribing Link workers. The clinical team is supported by an excellent
administrative team with experienced managers. Team spirit is strong as is the
commitment to great patient care.
We enjoy excellent working relationships with neighbouring practices,
working collaboratively as part of the West Norwich Primary Care Network.
Essential Criteria
Essential
- Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
- Occupational health clearance
- Able to travel for work purposes between surgeries
- This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

- Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
Qualifications

- HCA with current Care Certificate.

- Basic Life Support training or willingness to undertake

- Experience of working in General Practice.
- Maintain accurate patient records & record all clinical observations & interventions appropriately.
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a changing environment
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of working with policies, procedures and defined competencies.

- Experience of using SystmOne and Ardens Templates
