The post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and

responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. The

post-holder, as part of the practice team, will manage a caseload and deal with

a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest

standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder

will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including

surgery consultations, telephone, video, and e-consultations, visiting patients

at home, authorising repeat prescription and dealing with queries, paperwork,

and correspondence in a timely fashion.

The post-holder will be supported in continuous professional development

through attendance at necessary/appropriate courses and/or study days in

addition to training programmes implemented by the practice.

JOB TITLE: Salaried General Practitioner

REPORTS TO: The Partners

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Working hours

Your working hours will fall between 08:00-18:00h from Monday to Friday.

The number of hours and working days are open to negotiation with the successful candidate.

Salary

Negotiable, depending on skills and experience.

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care and this list (which is not exhaustive) provides examples of the type of work involved:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone/video and e-consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Surgery sessions will consist of circa 14 patients, (a session is a half day).
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • To take a lead role on behalf of the practice in particular areas of clinical function e.g. prescribing.
  • To participate in the on call rota. This is a daytime rota for dealing with emergency patients and clinical queries.
  • Supervise, advise and mentor Nurse Practitioners, Paramedic Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Phlebotomists, GP Registrars and medical students.

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, for example, prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
  • Reporting potential risks identified.

The post-holder will support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues, to include:

In addition to maintaining continued education through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements are met, the post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include:

  • Participation in an annual appraisal and revalidation, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will:

  • Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk (including patient safety)
  • Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients' needs
  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.

The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

  • Communicate effectively with other team members
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers
  • Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.

  • Apply practice policies, standards, and guidance
  • Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
  • Participate in audit where appropriate.
  • Will participate fully in Primary Care Networks
  • Will participate fully in attaining QOF points
  • Will participate fully in all other Practice contracts (such as local enhanced service contracts).

The Green House Surgery currently has a registered patient list of

approximately 10,000 patients residing in Redcar and surrounding areas.

We work from modern, purpose-built premises and benefit from ease of

with access to hospital-based diagnostics and other services. We have excellent

public transport links (Redcar train stations are within walking distance) and

also have free on-site parking for both patients and staff.

Our existing clinical team provides us with a diverse skill set

consisting of, GP Partners, Salaried GPs, Paramedic Practitioners, Nurse

Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Advanced HCAs, Healthcare Assistants,

Phlebotomists and Pharmacy Technicians.

As a member of Redcar Costal PCN, we benefit from having access to

various ARRS practitioners and have good working relationships with other

member practices.

Our excellent Practice Administrators and Management team provide

nonclinical support and help reduce the administration burden on clinicians.

The successful candidate will work as part of a loyal & committed

clinical team and receive excellent support from our Partners and colleagues.

We will provide you with a named GP Partner mentor who will provide support

with more complex cases and processes as required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
  • Participation in annual appraisal and revalidation when appropriate
  • General practice Vocational Training Scheme trained
  • On a GP medical performers list
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • UK work permit if required or eligible as an applicant through the Tier 2 sponsorship scheme.

Desirable: - Evidence of continued professional development; - MRCGP; - Experience of teaching undergraduate students; - Current CPR certificate; - UK driving licence
