Our South & West Fostering Team is looking for a part-time Supervising Social Worker (29.6 hours / 4 days per week) to oversee the foster homes of children and young people living with carers approved by Fostering Devon.

This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your social work career within a supportive, friendly and experienced service that places children and foster families at the heart of everything they do.

Our Fostering service plays an integral part in Devon County’s role as a corporate parent by ensuring that all foster homes for children and young people in Devon are safe, nurturing and thriving.

As a Supervising Social Worker within our Fostering Support Team you will champion high standards of professional social work practice with a sound knowledge in fostering regulations and legal options available to children to be cared for by persons within their network.

Your role will include support and supervision of foster carers, undertaking unannounced visits, annual reviews, and you will be confident in assisting in the delivery of support groups and training to foster carers. As an advocate of restorative practice you will encourage a collaborative culture, where opportunities for reflection and learning are supported.

  • A social work qualification and registration with Social Work England
  • Satisfactory completion of your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) or willingness to undertake this.
  • Experience of working within social care, including working multi-agency awareness and with knowledge of fostering regulations
  • A high-level of written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build effective professional relationships with children, foster families, and other professionals
  • Knowledge and understanding of the legislation, models, and theories relevant to children’s social work and therapeutic parenting
