Epilepsy Fellowship

Fellows play a key role in the epilepsy team, developing skills across the full range of outpatient clinics. Fellows have an opportunity to develop skills in EEG interpretation, with a view to reviewing inpatients on the telemetry suite and presenting cases in the surgical MDT. Fellows are encouraged to develop a research interest and it is expected that this will lead to presentation.

Fellows may be expected to perform limited on-call duties during normal working hours.

The fellowship is for a period of 12 months; under exceptional circumstances it may be offered for a period between 6 and 12 months, if desired by the trainee. This has to be agreed in advance, to aid future recruitment.

The regional epilepsy service at UHB is nationally renowned in providing care, for people with epilepsy, both newly diagnosed and long-standing. The service includes a complex epilepsy surgery programme (resective and VNS pathways), regional genetics, neuropsychiatry and neuropsychology services.

The service spans the age spectrum, with a dedicated transition service run jointly with Birmingham Children's Hospital. There are specialist clinics covering neuro-immunology, neuro-oncology, intellectual disability and tuberous sclerosis. Fellows will gain additional experience from the joint obstetric service (Birmingham Women's Hospital) and the regional sleep medicine service at the Barberry.
