Emergency Services Receptionist An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our expanding team of Band 2 Receptionists within Emergency Services at UHP...

The post holder will be responsible for the timely and accurate registration of patients, booking appointments, and undertaking a range of administrative duties to support the effective running of the service. The role will involve working within a busy reception environment, ensuring a professional and patient-focused service at all times.

The reception service operates 7 days a week, and the post holder will be required to work a range of shifts, including evenings and weekends, in line with service needs.

Reception Duties

  • To receive and welcome patients and relatives to the department and direct to the waiting area.
  • Book in all patients attending the Emergency Services on EPIC and ensure the necessary documents are available before triage.
  • When booking in patients, confirm with patients all demographic details. Understand the importance of accurate data entry. Details are often highly sensitive where there are significant barriers to understanding including patients with mental/physical needs and patients under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
  • Escalate concerns to triage nurse when required such as if a patient presents with chest pain, symptoms of a stroke or shortness of breath.
  • Completion of the assault screen for external auditing.
  • Accessing and sharing care plans with authorised clinicians for patients who are vulnerable, at risk or are frequent attenders.
  • Understand the process of booking in overseas patients, done via EPIC.
  • Use EPIC to print wristbands.
  • Use EPIC for the transfer/discharge of patients.
  • Book in unknown patients using the unknown patient process.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE Maths and English grades 4-9 (A-C)
  • NVQ Level 2 in relevant subject or equivalent demonstrable experience

Desirable

  • European Computer Driving Licence

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Previous demonstrable experience carrying out administrative duties
  • Previous demonstrable experience working with the general public, in a customer-oriented role

Desirable

  • Similar clerical experience within a healthcare organisation
  • o Previous demonstrable experience using Patient Management System

Aptitude & Abilitites

Essential

  • Numerate, literate.
  • Good computing skills, including email and Microsoft Office
  • Able to enter data accurately onto the computer.
  • Proven ability to work well within a busy environment
  • Proven ability to travel between sites
