Job description

We have an exciting role on offer within our Children’s services as an Educational Psychologist.

Would you like to Join a supportive and ambitious Educational Psychology Service where relationships, consultation and early intervention are at the heart of what we do?

Middlesbrough Educational Psychology Service is seeking an enthusiastic, reflective and compassionate Educational Psychologist to join our team.

This is an exciting time to join the service as we continue to develop our contribution to SEND reform and expand our innovative Experts at Hand offer. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop, deliver and evaluate psychological support at individual, group and systemic levels, including multi-agency collaboration, early intervention and whole-school approaches.

Middlesbrough EPS is a well-established and highly regarded service with strong relationships across our schools and partner agencies. We successfully deliver a blend of traded, statutory and project work, underpinned by consultation, collaborative problem-solving and values-based practice. Staff wellbeing, professional development and supportive teamwork are central to how we work.

The post is offered on a hybrid basis, combining home working with office-based practice. Alongside contributing to the Experts at Hand model, the successful candidate will work with a linked group of schools, providing a range of psychological services. This typically includes consultation, assessment and intervention planning for individual children and young people, as well as activities such as training, solution-oriented meetings, Circles of Adults, PATH processes and other forms of capacity-building support.

The role also includes preparing high-quality statutory advice within statutory timescales. We are proud to have no backlog of statutory assessments and maintain high standards of professional practice. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills, a reflective approach and a commitment to collaborative working with children, families and professionals.

Team collaboration is a key strength of the service. We come together every Wednesday for peer support, supervision, professional development and service development activities. We have ambitious plans to further develop our training and preventative offer and are keen to support colleagues in developing their professional interests and areas of expertise.

A supportive, collaborative and highly experienced team.

Strong commitment to staff wellbeing and work-life balance.

Regular supervision, peer support and continuing professional development.

Opportunities to shape the development of innovative services, including Experts at Hand.

A balanced range of traded, statutory and project work.

No backlog of statutory assessments.

Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

Middlesbrough is ideally located between the River Tees, the North Sea coast and the North York Moors National Park, offering easy access to both vibrant urban centres and beautiful countryside. The area benefits from excellent transport links and a wide range of employee benefits available through Middlesbrough Council.
