The role provides exposure to a wide spectrum of complex pathology, including colorectal cancer, HPB, inflammatory bowel, complex pelvic including mesh and exenteration planning, as well as acute GI radiology.
Radiologists at SHOU are integral members of a strong MDT culture and play a highly valued role in clinical decision-making. There are excellent opportunities to contribute to and shape patient pathways through close collaboration with a range of tertiary services, including support for image-guided intervention and specialist body ultrasound services.
SHOU offers a stimulating academic and educational environment, with strong links to the University of Bristol and University of West of England, as well as hosting the largest cohort of radiology residents in the Severn Deanery, thereby providing excellent opportunities for teaching, supervision and educational leadership.
The postholder will have close working relationships with the whole Radiology team including Consultants, Radiographic and associated support staff whilst also developing extensive collaborative links with colleagues within all associated specialties.
Teaching and Training are an integral part with rotating radiology trainees and subspecialty training.
A formal job plan will be reviewed between the Post Holder and Specialty Lead within three months after commencement in post. The exact timetable will be flexible, arranged in discussion with the Specialty Lead.
The job plan will be reviewed prospectively and at least annually. This will be a positive agreement that sets out a consultants duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year.

Qualifications And Registration
Essential
- ?FRCR or equivalent
- ?Full registration with the GMC
- ?Previous experience working in the NHS, minimum 18 months as an independent reporting radiologist.
- ?Must have CCT in Clinical Radiology and on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of the appointment.
- ?Where applicable completed CESR
- ?Specialist registrars that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date.
Desirable
- Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS).
Training and Experience
Essential
- NHS experience of acute and trauma cross-sectional imaging, including body and neuro radiology
- Sub-speciality training in abdomino-pelvic imaging
- Independent MDT provider
- Independent ultrasound provision
- Log-book evidence of independent reporting and procedures
Desirable
- Competence in reporting abdominal and pelvic MRI including MRCP, small bowel, Liver, rectal, gyane and, prostate
- Independent image guided biopsy and drainage
- Wire guided localisation procedures
- Specialist US skills - contrast enhanced liver and kidneys and small bowel US
- Fluoroscopy
Further Training, management, audit
Essential
- Evidence of recent CME / training progression at this stage of career
- Completed QI and Audit projects
- Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues
- Knowledge of political context within which we operate
Desirable
- Completion of a general management course or programme
Research, Teaching, Publications

- Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates and postgraduates
- Proven teaching ability
