Consultant Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAMHS)

• This post is to provide consultant input for the Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Diagnoses (SCAAND). Children and young people referred to the service may also have associated genetic conditions, sensory impairments, physical impairments or other additional needs. SCAAND includes a clinical pathway for Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). The successful applicant will work closely with the existing Consultant Child Psychiatrists and the other disciplines within SCAAND and may hold roles in other pathways. This locum post aim to cover for 12 months a vacant substantive consultant post until the permanent is advertised.
• The post-holder would be expected to play a key role in providing consultation and advice to colleagues within and outside the team, especially with complex cases; psychiatric and medical assessments of children and adolescents, prescribing and monitoring medication, and supporting the delivery of services in accordance with Trust Clinical Governance and NICE guidance policies. The post-holder may also be required to supervise psychiatric trainees.
• The successful applicant will be working 10 PAs.

• Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or Equivalent (A/I)

• Higher degree or additional qualifications (e.g., MSc, PhD on a related topic/ neuroscience, Teaching Proficiency) (A)

Essential

• Completion of Higher Psychiatric Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry OR Equivalent training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CESR issued by PMETB) (A/I)
• Experience in assessing + treating neurodevelopmental conditions with associated comorbidities, and psychopharmacology for autistic children or those with learning disability (A/I)
• Experience in clinical leadership and service development (A/I)

Desirable

• Experience in the use of ADOS, ADI-r (A/I)
• Experience in relevant therapeutic practice e.g. DBT, CBT or Family Therapy (A/I)
• Experience of psychopharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment modalities in children with mental illness and autism and physical illness (A/I)

Essential

• Demonstrated clinical skills in specialist area of autism and learning disability and associated mental health, as well as psychopharmacology (A/I)
• Demonstrated clinical skills child and adolescent psychiatry (A/I)
• Must have experience in dealing with children with autism and/or learning disability and associated comorbidities in outpatient settings (A/I)
• Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment interventions for autistic young people and/or young people with Learning Disability and their families. (A/I)
• Experience and knowledge of multi-disciplinary, multi-agency working with children with complex, multi-system disease (A/I)
• Experience of safeguarding, governance and legislation issues specific to children with neurodevelopmental conditions and associated comorbidities (A/I
• Competence in risk management(A/I)
• Competence in non-medication therapeutic approaches (A/I)
• Compliance with national and professional guidelines(A/I)
