Job description

Due to upcoming retirements we are recruiting for a permanent Respiratory Consultant with general medicine accreditation. The appointment is to the Un...

Ideally the post is a full-time post with 10 PA's and a contribution to the existing on-call rota. We would also consider part-time working. It will contain General Respiratory and General Medical inpatient and outpatient care with development of any special interests.

The successful applicant will join us at an exciting time of great change and opportunity. The merged Respiratory Team across the both sites comprises of 15 Respiratory Consultants who work closely with a team of Respiratory Physiologists, Lung Care Specialist Nurses, TB Specialists and the Dorset Adult Integrated Respiratory Service (DAIRS) Team. The UHD model for the future is that all inpatient care will be delivered at the Bournemouth site and planned/elective care will be delivered across both sites from late 2026. Joining us at this time gives the applicant the unique opportunity to be involved in shaping the future service of UHD Respiratory Medicine including the building of new inpatient wards, the building and development of a dedicated Respiratory High Care Unit and a specialist Respiratory on-call.

We do reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.

The job plan is negotiable but will be based on current joint job plans and departmental requirements. This can be discussed in more detail at the time of appointment. If working part-time hours the job plan would be adjusted accordingly.

For further details please see attached the Job Description.

For enquiries and a tour of the Respiratory areas, please contact the Clinical Lead: Dr Victoria Wells (email: Victoria.wells14@nhs.net).

UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.

The inpatient service has a planned move from the Poole Site to the RBCH site on completion of the new COAST building which is currently under construction.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

UHD has active networks including Women's, BAME, Pride, EU, Pro Ability, and Armed Forces. We support Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant interview schemes.

AI tools may be used, but applications must honestly reflect your own skills and experience. Integrity is key to our recruitment process.

As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality care across seven days, this post may involve participation in an out-of-hours rota, including evenings, weekends, and/or bank holidays, in accordance with service needs.
