Consultant in General Paediatrics

o Provide a comprehensive general paediatric service across inpatient, ambulatory, outpatient and emergency care settings.

o Participate in the consultant on-call rota, including out-of-hours, weekend and acute paediatric/neonatal hot week cover.

o Support the development of paediatric respiratory services, including outpatient activity, pathway development and quality improvement.

o Work collaboratively with paediatric, neonatal, emergency department, community and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality care.

o Provide clinical leadership, supporting patient flow, escalation, discharge planning and service improvement.

o Contribute to governance activities including audit, incident review, complaints management, risk management and quality improvement.

o Supervise and support junior medical staff and promote safe clinical practice.

o Participate in teaching, training, supervision and educational activities for undergraduate and postgraduate learners.

o Maintain appraisal, revalidation, continuing professional development and job planning requirements.

o Comply with Trust policies and GMC Good Medical Practice standards.

o Promote safeguarding, infection prevention, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion.

o Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role, including responsibilities linked to a specialist interest in paediatric respiratory care.

Qualifications

Desirable: - Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or other higher degree

Essential: - Ability to effectively organise and manage clinical workload; - Experience of partnership working across other agencies (Social Services, Education)

Teaching

Desirable: - Demonstrable ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role

Research

Essential: - Ability to convert research evidence into clinical practice

Desirable: - Participation in clinical research trials; - Publications in peer-reviewed journals
