Consultant in Breast Radiology

The service has encompassed the full 4 tier skill mix thus supporting learning and development opportunities at all levels. The team includes seven Consultant Radiologists, three Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners.

The Surgical team includes breast surgeons, two with Oncoplastic reconstruction expertise, Nurse Consultant - Breast and Breast Care Nurses. The multidisciplinary team is innovative, cohesive and forward thinking; participating in multiple national research and audit trials including the Prospect trial. The service has recently been subcontracted for high risk screening and also supports the high risk population from Russell Hall hospital.

SWB provides both a symptomatic and screening service. The geographical area includes North, West and East Birmingham, Sandwell and Walsall served by 4 mobiles. Static sites include City Health Campus and Walsall Manor hospital serving a screening eligible population of 170,000.

Qualifications

Essential: - oEntry on the Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview); - oFRCR or equivalent

Desirable: - Specialist training in Breast Radiology

Clinical Experience

Desirable: - oCompetent in newer techniques - Tomosynthesis, Seed/RFID localisation; - Special interest that complements the existing consultants

Management experience

Clinical effectiveness

Essential: - oExperience of conducting clinical audit; - oAbility to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decision-making

Education and training

Essential: - oAbility to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.; - oThe ability to appraise junior doctors and other staff.

Desirable: - oFormal training in teaching

Research, Innovation and Service Improvement Experience:

Essential: - oAbility to apply research outcomes to clinical problems; - oAn awareness of current specialty developments, initiatives and issues.
