University Hospitals of Derby & Burton are seeking to recruit a Consultant Clinical Oncologist, who together with 17 other Consultant Oncologists will...

The appointee will be responsible for

  • Provision of a comprehensive service in Oncology with consultantcolleagues, including new patient and follow-up clinics at Derby andBurton.
  • Provision of emergency cover and reciprocal cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave, on a shared basis. This will include care of patients and supervision of junior doctors.
  • The care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of the Department
  • Undertaking teaching/training duties as required and activelyparticipating in the postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes
  • Participating in clinical and medical audit and actively contributing in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance
  • Actively participating in continuing medical education (CME)

Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of FRCR or equivalent
  • Evidence of entry on GMC Specialist Register OR Have CCT or be within 6 months of attaining CCT at time of interview OR Evidence that the GMC is processing the Specialist Registration application (MUST be provided prior to interview)
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent

Desirable

  • Additional higher medical/ scientific degree
  • Training qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Clinical Oncology
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities
  • Experience of Research

Desirable

  • Experience of clinical responsibility above SpR grade
  • Peer reviewed publication

Knowledge

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Oncology within UHDB

Management and Admin Experience

Essential

  • Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of clinical governance
  • Experience of, and commitment to, Clinical Audit

Communication

Essential

  • Experience of formal presentations

Desirable

  • Experience of presenting at National / International conferences
