Based within Northumberland Children's Social Care, NEWST is a specialist clinical team dedicated to helping professionals and families better understand a child or young person's presentation within the context of their lived experiences. This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a service that is making a meaningful difference to the lives of children, young people, and families across Northumberland.
As part of an exciting service expansion, NEWST is extending its offer to support a wider cohort of children and young people, including those receiving support through Family Help, Edge of Care services, and Children in Care services.
We are looking for practitioners who
o Are passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people.
o Have experience working with children, young people, families, and multi-agency partners.
o Understand the impact of trauma, attachment, and adverse childhood experiences.
o Can work collaboratively across Health and Social Care systems.
o Are committed to relationship-based and trauma-informed practice.
o Bring strong clinical, communication, and consultation skills.
Successful candidates would have the opportunity to develop the skills in the following:
- Assessment and formulation (including clinical risk assessment and management)
- Offer advice and guidance
- Training and development others
- Psychologically informed interventions.
- Complex case work (child hood trauma and ACE's)
- Supporting understanding of co-morbidities.
- Multi- agency working

Knowledge
Essential
- Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
- Mentorship/Practice Educator Training
- Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post.
- Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post (CAMHS, Trauma therapies, formulation etc)
- Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
Desirable
- Working in CAMHS inpatient or secure setting
Skills and Competencies
Essential
- Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
- Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance).
- Ability to work in a team and lone working
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Evidence of a high level of professional, organisational and leadership skills (self & others).
Desirable
- Leadership & Delegation skills
- Training & Induction of staff.
- Debriefing skills.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- 12 to 24 month band 6 Registered professionals experience dependent upon service need.
- Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.
Desirable
- Understanding of difficult to manage/challenging behaviours.
