RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST
1. To provide
(a) A point of referral for children, throughout the age range, presenting with developmental difficulties or health problems having an impact on their education and social wellbeing.
(b) Assessment and diagnosis for children who may have developmental disability and for neurodevelopmental disorders in children under the age of 7 years
(c) Long term follow-up of children with disabilities
(d) Medical advice relating to children with special educational needs known to the service
2. To contribute to assessment of vulnerable children including safeguarding medicals and initial health assessments for children entering care.
3. To take an active role in the development of Community Paediatric services, including the development of service standards and protocols, and to have an active commitment to audit.
4. To contribute to the teaching of junior medical staff, other health professionals and staff from other agencies.

Experience
Essential
- Relevant years general professional training in paediatrics
- Relevant higher specialist training in paediatrics with at least 1 year in a community paediatric post Training and experience otherwise equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST Have experience in assessing and examining young people and children in the field of safeguarding
- Training and experience otherwise equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST
- Have experience in assessing and examining young people and children in the field of safeguarding
Desirable
- One year DGH Community Paediatrics
- Six months experience in a specialty useful to the Department eg neurology, neurodisability, child and adolescent mental health
- Specialist experience in one or more particular areas of Community Child health practice to take a lead role in that area
Management
Essential
- Understanding of management issues, clinical governance, service planning and development and quality improvement
- Willingness to lead service developments
Desirable
- Demonstrated ability to manage eg project work, mentoring junior staff
- Demonstrated ability to take on leadership role
Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration
- MB BCh or equivalent
- Higher qualification in Paediatrics -MRCPCH or equivalent.
- Evidence of level 3 competencies in Community Child Health
- Level 3 Child Protection Training
- On GMC's Specialist Register or be no more than three months from obtaining CCST at interview date
Desirable
- Other relevant qualification (eg BSc)
Teaching skills

- Evidence of teaching experience
Desirable
- Formal training in teaching methods eg Train the Trainers course
- Demonstrated ability in teaching and training
Academic Achievements /Research

- Relevant up to date CPD record
- Demonstrable experience of participation in regular clinical audit and the ability to effect change.
- Demonstrable experience of working to the clinical governance agenda
Desirable
- Research experience and training, presentations and publications
