Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as a Receptionist within the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC...

Based within the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), the Reception Team plays a key role in delivering a professional, welcoming and efficient service to patients, visitors and colleagues. As the first point of contact, the team supports patients throughout their diagnostic pathway by managing patient check-ins, appointment administration, telephone enquiries and maintaining accurate patient records across a range of digital systems.

The successful post holder will work closely with colleagues across the CDC and wider Trust, providing excellent customer service and administrative support to ensure a positive patient experience. Duties include welcoming patients and visitors, booking and managing appointments, responding to enquiries, supporting administrative processes, maintaining reception areas, processing correspondence and updating Trust systems.

Applicants should have excellent communication and organisational skills, attention to detail, and a professional and empathetic approach when dealing with patients, relatives, visitors and colleagues. The ability to manage a varied workload, work independently and as part of a team, maintain confidentiality and remain calm in a busy environment is essential.

The CDC may operate up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week, therefore flexibility to meet service requirements is required.

For full duties and responsibilities please refer to the attached document entitled Job Description.

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team -- clinical or non-clinical -- plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values -- ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
