In this permanent position as a Commis Chef at Avery Healthcare, located in Lichfield, you will assist the Chef de Partie by preparing food and handling basic cooking tasks across various kitchen areas. Your responsibilities include managing catering services, engaging with residents and department heads to address dietary needs, preparing high-quality, nutritious meals, and catering to special diets as required. As a Commis Chef, your primary role will be to assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks.You will work in different areas of the kitchen, such as vegetables, fish and meat, and sauces, usually on a six-month rotation programme.
Other responsibilities will include
- Supporting all chefs to manage and deliver all catering services throughout the home, ensuring resident choice, dignity, confidentiality, and safety are maintained.
- Participating in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments to discuss and agree on catering functions across the home and address residents' special needs or dietary requirements. This must include knowledge of cultural and religious preferences.
- Preparing nutritional food and beverages to a high standard, as directed by the Chefs, promptly and in accordance with agreed mealtimes.
- Preparing special diet meals as needed and as directed by the Chefs.

- Hold a catering qualification such as City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent.
- Hold Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Have a minimum of 1-year catering experience.
- Demonstrate compassion and commitment to the delivery of high-quality culinary services to residents.
- Be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.
