Clinical/Counselling Psychologist in pain management

Essential

• Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) as accredited by the HCPC.
• Current registration with Health professions Council (HCPC) as a clinical psychologist or a counselling psychologist

Essential

• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups with regard to pain management or other physical health conditions.
• Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
• Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice.

Desirable

• Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
• Interest and ability to contribute to service development.

Essential

• Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology
• High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies
• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, outpatient and inpatient settings
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
• Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts (including work with clients from different cultural backgrounds).
• Experience of health professional teaching, training and supervision.

Desirable

• Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological intervention with people with chronic pain or physical health conditions.
• Knowledge of clinical health psychology literature on behaviour change and its application in the clinical environment.
• Specialist knowledge of the theoretical background and practice of pain management.
• Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client groups and mental health.
• Completion of substantial post-doctoral post-qualification supervised clinical health psychology experience working with clients in the area of chronic pain or a related client group.
• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of chronic pain clients including group pain management programmes and individual pain management.
• Experience of the application of clinical psychology to physical health problems including chronic health conditions
• Experience of contributing to service design and evaluation projects.
• Experience of working as a psychologist within a physical health multi-disciplinary team.
