Clinical Facilitator / Supervisor (Dentist)

You will

Monitor the activities and actions

of the students in order to ensure development of clinical skills and knowledge

of the highest order

Ensure the patient receive safe,

effective and timely care, and are kept informed about the nature of their

treatment

Ensure that students follow policy

in relation to, for example, infection control procedures, safeguarding and

radiation safety.

Due to the nature of the role, unfortunately we are

You will

A Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree

A relevant teaching qualification

(Supervisor will need to complete Teaching Essentials for Associate Lecturers

course if none available)

A team player who plans ahead and

is well organised

First class clinical skills and

Ability to provide concise

explanations and clear direction and guidance so that the students know what is

expected of them and why

Ability to provide constructive and

objective feedback that supports student learning and development

Good all-round knowledge of dental

care, with up-to-date knowledge of aspects of general practice within your

scope of practice

Willing to work to academic

standards and be involved in quality assurance

Summary of role

Clinical supervisors are responsible

for overseeing clinical treatment undertaken by Dental and Dental Therapy students,

ensuring the treatment is completed to a high standard and students are given

appropriate feedback on their work.

Undergraduate students provide a full range of primary care dentistry (within

their scope of practice) to the patients allocated to them.

Supervisors are recruited to work in

either Plymouth, Truro or Exeter facilities, and may be asked to work in other

sites as needed.

Whilst fostering students technical

skills is vital, helping students develop knowledge and skills in all aspects

of clinical practice, such as communication and professional behaviour are also

a key part of the supervisors role.

The role holder will be responsible

for assisting students in clinical practice, and to assess the students

competency in all clinical procedures. The clinical supervisor is also

responsible for ensuring the patient is treated safely, and in line with the

policies of the University and the clinical placement provider.

Main duties

Assist students in completing

clinical records using patient record systems (training will be provided

as required)

Ensure health and safety policy is

observed by students

at all times

Offer guidance in clinical dental practice within GDC scope of practice

Ensure clinical dental

education standards are of

the highest standard by working to evidence-based practice and

National and locally agreed (Peninsula Dental School) clinical guidelines and

care pathways

Recognise students individual skills and needs, and provide written and

verbal feedback on their work.

Be involved in the assessment of students against documented standard in

line with the quality assurance requirements of the Dental School
