The role involves providing the psychology component of LPFT's multi disciplinary mental health assessment and intervention service for young people residing in the LSU.
It includes developing and delivering a range of psychological assessments and interventions, either independently or alongside CAMHS colleagues, as well as working collaboratively with other professionals, agencies, carers and families, and acting as a case coordinator when appropriate.
You will offer therapeutic interventions to young people who have experienced sexual abuse or who present with sexually concerning behaviours, and will carry out specialist developmental assessments--such as cognitive assessments and assessments for autistic spectrum disorder--to support understanding of learning or neurodevelopmental difficulties influencing a young person's presentation.
The role requires experience in at least two therapeutic approaches, alongside a willingness to train in dialectical behaviour therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing if not already accredited.
It also includes leading on psychological formulations, undertaking risk assessment and risk management for individual young people and offering guidance to other professionals on the psychological aspects of assessing and managing risk. This is a part-time post, and flexible working patterns can be considered within operational hours.

To provide the clinical psychology aspect of the LPFTs multi-disciplinary mental health assessment and intervention service provision to young people resident in LSU.
To develop and provide a range of clinical psychology assessments and interventions either as the sole clinician or in conjunction with other CAMHS colleagues; with other staff and agencies responsible for providing services to the young people within the LSU and their carers and families. To act as case coordinator / lead professional where appropriate.
To provide therapeutic interventions to young people within LSU who have been the victims of sexual abuse; who are presenting with sexually concerning behaviours.
To provide specialist developmental assessments, including cognitive assessments, assessments for autistic spectrum disorder to help understand underlying learning difficulties, neurodevelopmental difficulties which may be impacting on the young persons presentation.
Experience in and ability to provide at least 2 of the following therapeutic interventions:
- Dialectical Behaviour therapy
- Cognitive-behaviour therapy
- Systemic work with families and other involved agencies
- Therapeutic interventions for post abuse; for post traumatic stress
- Therapeutic interventions for sexually concerning behaviours
- Attachment work
- Solution focused therapies
- Creative therapies
- Relaxation and visualisation techniques

Qualifications
Essential
- Good honours degree in Psychology
- HCPC accredited professional psychology qualification ie clinical psychology and/or forensic psychology
- Registered with HCPC.
Desirable
- Other related academic qualifications to Masters or Doctorate level
- Additional training related to assessing risk eg SAVRY; J-SOAP II; ERASOR
- Additional training re: working therapeutically with young offenders and their families and carers
- Additional training related to assessment of young people presenting with sexually concerning behaviours - AIMS2; AIMS under12's
- Supervision training for doctorate level clinical psychology trainees and/or for masters level forensic psychology trainees
- Additional training in child neurodevelopment including assessment of autistic spectrum disorders; contributing to ADHD assessments
- Training in being an Expert Witness in court proceedings
- Registered with BPS
- Member of Division of Clinical Psychology / Forensic Psychology
- Eligible for chartered status as a clinical and / or forensic psychologist
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with children and young people and families where there are mental health concerns.
- Experience of working with young people aged from 10 years to school leaving age
- Experience of working with young people who have experienced abuse - physical, sexual, emotional
- Experience of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities and special needs from mild to extensive difficulties including learning difficulties; physical difficulties.
- Experience of providing psychology assessments of children and young people, including risk assessments, taking into account the context of their living situations which may include - living with biological parents; with separated parents; with other relatives; with foster carers; living in residential settings; inpatient settings; EBD schools - residential and non-residential. Experience of using a range of specialist psychology assessment skills which includes:- Use of standardised questionnaires. Use of risk assessment tools use of psychometric assessments of intelligence, memory, social functioning; executive functioning
- Use of behavioural assessments.
- Use of observational methods of assessment
- Assessment by interviewing
- Assessment by analysis of archive material
- Experience of developing and providing therapeutic interventions and intervention packages for children and young people presenting with offending behaviours; for children and young people with mental health concerns.
- Demonstrate specific expertise in the use of at least 2 of the following therapeutic models:-
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
- Cognitive-behaviour therapy
- Schema therapy
- Solution focused interventions
- Therapies for post traumatic stress - Systemic therapy, Attachment therapy, Creative therapies
- Experience of providing psychology advice to parents and carers and staff concerning the care and/or therapeutic provision for children and young people presenting with offending behaviours; with mental health concerns.
- Knowledge of and experience of child protection and safeguarding issues and procedures.
- Experience of working within multi-disciplinary and multi-agency settings.
- Experience of providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Experience of providing teaching and training to other psychologists and other unqualified and qualified people.
Desirable
- Experience of working with children, young people and families where there are concerns about sexually harmful behaviours
- Experience in carrying out attachment work with young people and their carers.
- Experience of offering post trauma interventions eg EMDR; trauma focused CBT
- Experience of completing neuro developmental assessments including autism assessments; contributing to ADHD assessments
- Experience in writing reports for Court and giving evidence as an Expert Witness.
- Experience of providing supervision to other psychologists / professionals who work with young offenders and their carers and families.

- Knowledge of relevant child protection, safeguarding, mental health legislation, youth justice legislation and its implications for clinical practice when working with young people, young offenders and their families/carers.
- Knowledge of professional Guidelines set out by:- HCPC, The BPS, The Health Trust. Capable of interpreting these guidelines and policies and taking action as appropriate to provide efficient and effective, evidence-based therapeutic assessments and interventions for children and young people and their carers and families; detailed risk assessments.
