As Deputy Chief Pharmacist, the post holder will work with the Chief Pharmacist to ensure the Trust-wide delivery of safe, effective and efficient medicines optimisation and pharmacy services to patients and other service users in the Trust, financial, strategic and staffmanagement and service transformation in line with trust strategy and national priorities. As a member of the Medicines Optimisation senior team, the post holder will assist in the development of the medicines optimisation strategy and the development of medicines optimisation and pharmacy services. The post holder will be a senior and experienced pharmacist and will have responsibilities for the leadership and the development of the community services activity portfolios in addition to the additional roles and responsibilities of the Deputy Chief Pharmacist as outlined in this jobdescription. The portfolio will be flexible dependent upon the skills and experiences of the successful candidate.

1. To be responsible for organising, implementing, managing and developing thepharmaceutical services in the areas of Community Health, inc dental, childrens, LD,community nursing, and other services where appropriate.2. To develop service standards and safe procedures around the use of medicines by allhealth professionals providing community health services and other services for whichthe post holder is responsible and to monitor and audit performance against thesestandards. 3. To contribute to the clinical governance of the Trust through interventions whichoptimise the management of medicines.4. To provide professional advice on policies and practice to community health servicesand to other agencies.5. To provide clinical information and answer complex clinical queries related to medicines 6. To provide and analyse financial information including prescribing data analysis.7. To participate in the professional development of staff working in the Community Health,Primary Care, pharmacy and other healthcare staff in the trust including students andtrainee pharmacists where appropriate.8. To provide professional leadership and act as a clinical role model through the provisionof clinical pharmacy services 9. Be responsible in conjunction with the Chief Pharmacist for the leadership, strategicdevelopment

The Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Team works across the whole organisation and is responsible for all aspects of medicines practice.

Essential

Essential

  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Higher degree/diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in pharmacy
  • Significant experience of managing pharmacy staff

Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to manage staff and deal with all personnel issues.
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of clinical pharmacy and therapeutic options.
  • Able to involve and communicate with patients and carers.
