As Associate Director of Facilities, you will provide
strategic and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio of Soft FM
services, ensuring they are safe, compliant, resilient, efficient and focused
on the needs of patients, staff and visitors.
You will lead and develop a workforce of approximately 300
staff across four hospital sites, with responsibility for service performance,
financial resources, workforce planning, risk, governance and continuous
improvement.
Working at a senior corporate level, you will provide expert
Facilities advice to SCL and the Trust, contribute to Board and Executive
discussions, and work collaboratively with clinical, corporate and external
partners. You will lead service transformation, manage complex contractual and
PFI relationships, ensure regulatory and statutory compliance, and support the
organisations resilience and sustainability objectives.
You will also deputise for the Managing Director
when required, representing SCL at senior forums and providing effective
leadership on complex and sensitive issues.
Provide strategic leadership for a diverse portfolio of Soft
Facilities Management services supporting the safe, effective and efficient
operation of the Trusts hospitals.
Lead services including car parking, decontamination,
portering, telecommunications, transport, security and waste management,
ensuring high standards of quality, performance, compliance and patient
Provide leadership and direction to approximately 300
Facilities staff across four hospital sites, promoting a positive, inclusive
and high-performing culture.
Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, retention,
performance management, employee relations, training and staff development.
Hold delegated responsibility for Facilities Services
financial resources, ensuring effective budget management, efficiency,
productivity and value for money.
Provide strategic oversight of service performance, risk,
governance, health and safety, business continuity and regulatory compliance.
Lead key Facilities assurance and information requirements,
including ERIC, PAM, PLACE and the Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
Provide specialist Facilities advice and assurance across
complex PFI, OHF, Non-OHF, NHS Property Services and Community Health
Partnerships arrangements.
Develop effective relationships with senior Trust
colleagues, clinical teams, corporate functions, contractors, PFI partners,
suppliers and external stakeholders.
Provide authoritative advice on complex Facilities matters
and contribute to senior corporate and Board-level decision-making.
Lead and influence service improvement, transformation and
modernisation programmes, identifying opportunities to improve quality,
efficiency, sustainability and value for money.
Contribute to delivery of the Trust Green Plan, including
Travel and Transport objectives, and support wider sustainability and
resilience priorities.
Ensure Facilities services are prepared to respond
effectively to operational disruption, major incidents and changing healthcare
Deputise for the Managing Director when required,
representing SCL at senior Trust, corporate and external forums.
Operate with a high degree of autonomy, professional
judgement and accountability, balancing competing operational, clinical,
financial, contractual and organisational priorities.
Where available, visa sponsorship is subject to the role meeting the Home Office Skilled Worker eligibility requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, the role being eligible for sponsorship and meeting the applicable salary threshold and other immigration requirements. Eligibility for sponsorship will be assessed in line with current Home Office guidance.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience gained through significant senior management experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role.
Desirable
- Relevant postgraduate management or Facilities Management qualification.
- Relevant professional qualification or membership of a recognised Facilities Management/professional body
Experience
Essential
- Significant senior management experience within a large, complex organisation.
- Proven track record of strategic and operational leadership of complex services.
- Significant experience of managing large and diverse workforces, including complex employee relations and working with recognised trade unions.
- Experience of managing budgets and delivering financial control, efficiency and value for money.
- Experience of working collaboratively across organisational, professional and contractual boundaries.
- Experience of leading service improvement, organisational change and performance management.
- Experience of providing specialist advice and assurance to senior management and/or Board-level forums.
- Experience within an NHS Trust, NHS-owned subsidiary or wider healthcare environment.
Desirable
- Experience of PFI, OHF/Non-OHF or similar contractual environments.
- Experience of leading Facilities transformation or service redesign programmes.
- Experience of managing decontamination, portering, waste, transport, security or other Soft FM services.
- Experience of ERIC, PLACE and PAM processes.
Special Skills & Knowledge

- Extensive knowledge of strategic, operational and financial management within a complex organisation.
- Knowledge of NHS/PFI contractual arrangements and healthcare Facilities Management.

- High level of political and organisational awareness, with the ability to operate effectively within a complex and changing environment.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritise competing demands and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to lead, motivate, develop and manage a large and diverse workforce.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulation, information governance, Health & Safety and NHS requirements applicable to Facilities Services.
- Knowledge of Data Protection, confidentiality and Caldicott principles.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence of maintaining professional knowledge.
Desirable: - - Knowledge of national Facilities Management standards and benchmarking
