Assistant Psychologist

TheAssistant Psychologistpost will involveconducting neuropsychological assessmentsunder the supervision of a Clinical Neuropsychologist / Clinical Psychologist.Trainingwill be provided for the post-holder to develop the knowledge and skillsrequired.There may be opportunities to provide interventions/treatment under the supervision of a Clinical Neuropsychologist/Psychologist and to be involved in research and audit projects.If you are interested in this post,you are advised toapply without delay.

The primary role is the administration and scoring of standardised neuropsychological tests with individual patients, together with the collation and summary of the resulting data. You will work to a test battery specified by, and under the clinical responsibility of, a qualified psychologist. Full training is provided to develop the knowledge and skills required to administer the tests, and you will receive regular clinical supervision throughout.

You will work with people affected by a range of neurological conditions, including acquired brain injury, epilepsy, brain tumours, stroke, hydrocephalus and functional neurological disorder. Assessment sessions are one to one and the post calls for sustained concentration, accuracy and the ability to build rapport quickly with patients and families across a wide range of ages and levels of cognitive function.

Administer neuropsychological tests with individual patients as directed by the supervising psychologist.

Score psychometric tools, then collate and summarise the data onto specified data sheets and departmental databases, presenting these alongside an observational record of the session.

Adapt communication where patients have difficulty understanding or expressing themselves, including occasionally working with interpreters and accommodating sensory impairment.

Recognise and respond to distress or fatigue during testing, and report the same day to the supervising psychologist.

Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in line with Trust, departmental and professional standards.

Plan and manage your own diary of assessment appointments within the schedules set by the supervising psychologist.

Support departmental audit, service evaluation and research activity through data collection and entry.

Undertake regular supervision and an agreed professional development plan.

Education/Training

Essential: - Bachelor level qualification in Psychology at 2:1 or higher; - Eligible for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable: - MSc in Neuropsychology

Work experience

Essential: - Experience working in a healthcare environment or with people with neurological conditions

Desirable: - Experience working as an assistant psychologist in a neuropsychology department
