An exciting opportunity has arisen within our booking office. We currently have a vacancy for a part-time (35 hours) Appointments Booking Clerk to be ...

The department provides a fast and responsive outpatient, appointment booking service. The applicant will be expected to ring and agree dates with our patients as well as performing a rostered telephone session, depending on the service needs, of the department. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, IT knowledge, and an ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team, working to strict deadlines. The hours of the service operate between 8am - 6pm Monday - Friday, in shifts of, 08:00-16:00, 09:00 -17:00 and 10:00-18:00, with weekend work 9am - 12 noon on a rota basis.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good general education to GCSE or equivalent level including English and Maths
  • Ability to undertake additional training on departmental IT and manual systems

Desirable

  • ECDL or alternative IT qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous admin and clerical experience in a busy office environment or similar skills

Desirable

  • Experience and understanding of a Patient Administration System (PAS)
  • Customer care skills and experience, preferably within a healthcare environment.

Skills

Essential

  • Good keyboard and IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good telephone manner
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Able to work in a pressurised environment
  • Professional telephone manner

Desirable

  • Good time management
  • Ability to accept and manage change
  • An awareness of Government Access Targets
  • Ability to control a conversation with a difficult or emotional patient.
