As an Anatomical Pathology Technician, you will
- Undertake routine and specialist mortuary duties and assist with post-mortem examinations, including high-risk cases and Virtopsys.
- Prepare, receive, store, and release deceased patients in accordance with local policies and legal requirements.
- Assist with body viewing arrangements and provide support to funeral directors and other service users.
- Support compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulations and standards.
- Contribute to the maintenance and development of departmental SOPs, risk assessments, and quality standards.
- Train and support junior colleagues and nursing staff in mortuary practices and Care After Death procedures.
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
Essential Qualifications
- Certificate and Diploma, or Level 3 and Level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.
Essential Experience - Experience working within a mortuary environment. [
- Experience training and supervising others.
- Experience participating in an on-call rota and working independently.
- Experience maintaining accurate mortuary records.
Essential Skills - Knowledge of specialist mortuary techniques and procedures.
- Understanding of HTA standards and mortuary regulatory requirements.
- Strong IT skills and experience using common software applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with police, funeral directors, healthcare professionals, and members of the public.

Essential
- Certificate and Diploma or Level 3 and Level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology
Desirable
- Foundation Degree in Mortuary Science
Exprience
Essential
- Experience of working in a mortuary
- Supervised and trained other staff both mortuary and nursing
- Participated in an on-call Rota (therefore worked alone)
Desirable
- Experience of running/organizing a mortuary
Skills
Essential
- Knowledge and familiar with specialized techniques required in the mortuary
- Knowledge of HTA and accreditation bodies responsible for the mortuary
