Job description

The Emergency Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust is building a team for the launch of a dedicated-on site Urgent Tr...

The successful candidate will be expected to provide autonomous care for both adults and children presenting with the full range of minor injuries and minor illnesses. They will be expected to provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and advice alongside discharge planning and communicating with colleagues within the hospital or across the wider system.

The role requires expertise in both minor illness and minor injury management. However, if the successful candidate requires additional support, education, or clinical upskilling in a particular area of practice, this will be provided.

Typical decisions the post holder will make independently include:

Assessing patients presenting with minor illness or injury, determining the most appropriate treatment plan, and deciding whether the patient can be managed within the Urgent Treatment Centre or requires referral to an alternative service.

Requesting, interpreting, and acting upon investigations such as point-of-care testing and limited x-rays, using expert clinical judgement to inform diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Identifying patients who require escalation of care and making timely decisions regarding referral to specialist services, emergency departments, or other healthcare professionals.
