Job description

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) co-ordinator within the West Yorkshire (WYO) NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screenin...

The role involves managing screening pathways, coordinating clinics, supervising staff, monitoring performance, maintaining high-quality data, and working collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams to provide an effective and patient-centred screening service.The post holder contributes to service development, quality improvement, governance, and compliance with national screening standards while ensuring patients receive timely screening, surveillance, and onward referral where appropriate.

Coordinate the daily operational management of the AAA Screening Programme.

Plan and organise community screening clinics across the service area.

Monitor patient pathways from invitation through screening, surveillance, referral, and discharge.

Ensure screening targets and national Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved.

Supervise, support, and provide guidance to screening technicians and administrative staff.

Manage staff rotas, workload allocation, training, and induction.

Ensure accurate and timely data entry onto the national AAA Screening IT system.

Produce activity reports, performance data, and service information for managers and commissioners.

Investigate incidents, complaints, and service issues, implementing appropriate actions.

Lead or participate in clinical audits and quality improvement projects.

Ensure compliance with NHS England screening standards, information governance, safeguarding, and health and safety requirements.

Reports to NHS England and SQAS (Screening Quality Assurance).

Work closely with vascular consultants, sonographers, GPs, primary care teams, hospitals, and regional screening colleagues to ensure effective patient care.

Manage patient enquiries and resolve complex administrative or operational issues.

Support service planning, business continuity, and implementation of new policies and procedures.

Participate in team meetings, training, and continuing professional development.

Escalation to Programme Managers in the event of any incidents.

Deputise for the Programme Managers when required within the scope of the role.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential

  • Education to degree level or working towards or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in field or similar
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Desirable: - Knowledge of NHS England Screening Programmes and national screening standards.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential

  • 3 years Leadership/Management experience
  • Experience of budget responsibility.
  • Clinical Governance knowledge.
  • Programme/Project Management.
  • Previous experience of line management.
  • Collaborative, multi agency working.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within Screening Programmes, health promotion specialties.
  • Experience of Regional Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Organising/Leading team meeting and networking events.
  • Recent experience of working across primary and secondary care teams.

COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES):

Essential

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proven ability to manage difficult conversations, complaints, or challenging situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organisational and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence and motivate staff to achieve service objectives.
  • Experience of delivering training, presentations, or educational sessions.

Desirable: - Experience of working across organisational boundaries with multiple stakeholders; - Experience of representing a service at regional or national meetings.
