The Ward Manager provides visible, compassionate leadership and is accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred mental health care within the ward. The post holder ensures safe staffing, high clinical standards, and a therapeutic environment that supports recovery. They lead and develop the nursing team, promote evidence-based practice, and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. The ward manager oversees:

Clinical Leadership and Practice

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered on the NMC register, parts 1,2
  • Relevant post registration health care and/or management qualifications
  • Mentorship/Teaching & assessing qualification

Desirable

  • Degree in appropriate subject area
  • Practice Assessor

Experience

Essential

  • Two years at Clinical Team Leader Band 6 or above.
  • Budget and resource management understanding.
  • Experience of providing management supervision and appraisal
  • First line management & leadership experience.
  • Competent in receiving and providing clinical supervision and reflective practice
  • Competent in operating CPA systems.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with older adults with dementia
  • Experience of working in an older adult setting.
